Biography

Özlem Yilmaz Silverman is Postdoctoral Researcher for the NSF-funded project “Epistemic and Ethical Functions of Categories in the Agricultural Sciences”–Catherine Kendig (PI) and Paul Thompson (co-PI). She is also faculty member in the Department of Philosophy. Her research focuses on philosophy and history of science, she is particularly interested in plant sciences. Yilmaz Silverman earned her PhDs—Biology (2011) and Philosophy (2020) from Ege University. She has been a research fellow at The University of Sydney, Sabanci University, Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research, and İstanbul Technical University. She co-founded the East European Network for Philosophy of Science and served as a steering committee member for seven years. Before joining MSU, she was awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship for her project “Plant Phenome” conducting her research at Egenis, Center for the Study of Life Sciences, University of Exeter.
