
Biography
Adam Yankowy (he/him) is a native of Louisville, KY and is currently an Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre at Michigan State University (MSU). Currently, he is the Artistic Program Director of the New Musical Laboratory and is the host of Showtunes Across the Mitten on WKAR. Over the past 10 years he has taught in the theatre departments at Drake, Iowa State (ISU), Grand View & Minnesota State Universities. Adam holds an MFA in Musical Theatre (Minnesota State University, Mankato), Bachelor’s in Music Education (University of Louisville), and a Musical Theatre Performance Certificate (AMDA, NYC). Previous direction: 9 to 5 (MSU), title of show (Summer Circle), Kinky Boots (DMPlayhouse- Cloris Award Nomination for Direction), Wings: A Staged Reading, Carrie (KCACTF National Recognition), It Shoulda Been You, Songs for a New World, Sunday on the Rocks, Runaways (Drake), You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown (DMYAT). Previous music direction: Young Frankenstein (Breckenridge Backstage), Spring Awakening (MSU), The Theory of Relativity, Carrie, Cabaret (DMPlayhouse- Cloris Award for Music Direction), It Shoulda Been You, 9 to 5, Into the Woods, Songs for a New World, Pippin, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Runaways (Drake), Fun Home (Iowa Stage- Cloris Award for Music Direction), Oklahoma! (ISU), A Christmas Story: The Musical, Disney’s Mary Poppins. His creative research centers on the creation of new musicals and the revision of older musicals as new musicals in addition to continuing to create work as a director, music director and performer. Besides musical theatre, he loves traveling, Disney and a good bourbon. Adam resides in Lansing with his husband, Eric and their two doodles, Rue and Beo.
