Biography
Tina M. Newhauser began her stage management career in the late 80’s, just after MTV made its national television debut, stage managing for regional theatre companies such as Porthouse Theatre, Crossroads Theatre, Playhouse on the Square, Circuit Playhouse, Boarshead Theatre, Springfield Arts, and The Peterborough Players. In the mid 90’s, she moved to NYC and began working for such groundbreaking theatre companies as WPA, Signature Theatre, WestBeth Theatre, Roundabout Theatre, and Manhattan Theatre Club. After a few inspiring years working commercially downtown (her favorite production being the long-running show THWAK, starring the physically & vocally flexible duo from downunder, The Umbilical Brothers) she trekked uptown to work on Broadway. Broadway credits include the Tony-nominated play Say Goodnight Gracie, written by the talented Rupert Holmes and starring Frank Gorshin, and the Tony award-winning musical The Boy From Oz, written by Nick Enright and Martin Sherman and starring the ever-gracious Hugh Jackman. While in NYC, Tina also worked with such industry greats as Barbara Cook, Liza Minnelli, Bebe Neuwirth, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Eddie Izzard, Estelle Parsons, Andre DeShields, Horton Foote, Don Holder, and John Lee Beatty. After stage managing for about 18 years, Tina began working as Production Manager for Off-Broadway productions and then for Capital Center for the Arts, a historic road house in beautiful New Hampshire. Managing for the CCA allowed Tina to work on more than 200 shows and events, with artists such as Indigo Girls, BB King, Chris Botti, Chelsea Handler, and Train. Tina left the CCA to spend a few years working in Houston as General Manager for Cullen Performance Hall, a roadhouse on the campus of the University of Houston, and for the Houston Shakespeare Festival, the university’s professional union summer theatre company that performs at Miller Outdoor Theatre. While working in NYC, NH, TX, and MI, Tina continues to work as a free-lance stage manager / showcaller in the Corporate Event & Business Theatre Industries. To date, she’s managed close to 250 corporate shows, marketing events, conferences, and product launches for Fortune 500 companies such as AOL, Reebok, MasterCard, Samsung, Motorola, Mercedes-Benz, NVIDIA, NASA, VISA, and a variety of financial and pharma companies. These gigs have taken her to exotic locations across the globe; places such as India, Vietnam, Venice, Barcelona, Malta, and the ever-picturesque Pittsburgh. In 2012, Ms. Newhauser moved with her family to MI to begin working at MSU, where she’s helped to launch a new Arts & Cultural Management Undergrad and Graduate program, and in the fall of 2017, a new BFA degree program in Stage Management. She has proudly graduated 27 stage managers as of spring 2026.
Works
In addition to stage managing over 100 fully produced productions and close to 275 corporate events, Tina Co-authored “Supporting Staged Intimacy, a Practical Guide for Theatre Creatives, Managers, and Crew.”
