Biography
Kevin C. Elliott is the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Endowed Chair of Agricultural, Food, Community, and Environmental Ethics and Red Cedar Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University, where he is jointly appointed between the Departments of Philosophy, Community Sustainability, and Fisheries and Wildlife. His research specializations are in the philosophy of science and practical ethics. Much of his scholarship focuses on responsibly addressing the roles that ethical and social values play in scientific research, especially in policy-relevant areas of the environmental sciences. In addition to his theoretical scholarship on the relationships between science and values, his current research interests include the responsible management of conflicts of interest in science, ethical issues that arise in science communication and open science, collaborative authorship practices in science teams, and the ethical issues involved in promoting “new approach methodologies” in the environmental health sciences.
He is also heavily involved in scholarly organizations such as the Philosophy of Science Association (where he served as Program Chair for the 2018 Biennial Meeting and currently serves as Associate Editor of the journal Philosophy of Science) and the International Union of History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (where he is currently serving as co-Chair of the Program Committee for the 2027 Congress for Logic, Methodology, and Philosophy of Science and Technology).
