Jessica Toby

Biography

Jessica Toby is an Instructor of Italian in the Department of Romance and Classical Studies at Michigan State University, where she teaches 100- and 200-level language courses with an emphasis on communicative proficiency and cultural integration. She has over fifteen years of experience teaching Italian at the post-secondary level. At MSU, she developed the culture course Made in Italy, which explores Italian identity through art, design, fashion, film, and contemporary society. She also created and leads Chiacchiere e Caffè, a co-curricular conversation hour designed to foster community and provide students with additional opportunities for informal language practice.

Prior to joining MSU, she taught for five years at a local community college. Beyond the university classroom, she has provided language and intercultural training to employees of Italian American corporations preparing for relocation to Italy. She holds an M.A. from Wayne State University.
