Sarah Jackson

Biography

My name is Sarah Jackson and I am a passionate HR professional and proud Spartan. I have been part of the Spartan community since I was a child and my mom studied at MSU to obtain her BA; we lived in Spartan Village and my mom would often take me to the library with her with the promise that if I let her get some studying in we could feed the ducks that congregate on the Red Cedar behind the building after. I continued my journey when I attended MSU for my own BA. I received my degree in Professional Writing (now called Public and Professional Writing) from the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Cultures right here in the College of Arts & Letters.

In 2018 I was fortunate to be hired into the Department of Art, Art History, and Design as Assistant to the Chair. Kresge Art Center, which houses the department, is a truly special place on campus with two art galleries on the main floor and awesome facilities such as our ceramics and sculpture areas. I brought my passion for HR to Art, Art History, and Design and learned about the faculty and academic staff life cycle in higher education. My passion and knowledge was a jumping off point in 2021 when the College moved to a staff teams model. Becoming a supervisor on the HR team and helping build it from the ground up with HR Director Melissa Staub has been a privilege and a joy. We have a small but strong team that helps advise our stakeholders and keeps everyone on track with hiring, reappointments, promotion and tenure, etc.

In my personal life I am a giant nerd who loves Star Trek, video games, Pokemon, and superheroes (movies and comics). I am a crocheter and an amateur painter and sewer. I have two cats, Aveline and Isabela, and an amazing partner Mark.
