Brahim Chakrani

Biography

Brahim Chakrani, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Languages.  He obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While completing his graduate work, Dr. Chakrani also obtained a Certificate of Advanced Studies in the program of Second Language Acquisition and Teacher Education (SLATE) at UIUC.  He serves as Director of the MSU Arabic Studies Program, as well as Executive Director of the American Association of Teachers of Arabic (AATA).  He also served as Director of the Middlebury Arabic School.

Dr. Chakrani’s research interests are sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, critical discourse analysis, conversational analysis, pragmatics, and teaching Arabic as a heritage and foreign language.
