Carly Braxton

Biography

Carly graduated with a PhD in English with a focus in Rhetoric and Writing Studies from Wayne State University. She also earned a Master of Arts in Higher Education from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Public Relations from Central Michigan University.

As a rhetoric of health and medicine researcher, she focuses on issues of linguistic justice and rhetorical flexibility in the context of the teaching of writing AND in health and medical communication. Specifically, her work challenges conventional notions of effective communication in healthcare, emphasizing the need to recognize and value linguistic diversity to foster more equitable interactions and outcomes. Carly is also an experienced teacher of writing, having taught classes such as first year writing, technical and professional writing and communication, and intermediate composition.
