Biography

Dr. Acevedo is an MSU alumna with an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership (major)/Adult Education (minor) and has worked in K-12 and higher education for over 35 years as a teacher, advisor, curricula designer, and administrator. She enjoys facilitating student writers’ growth and supporting their transformation, as per varied writing and rhetoric courses taught and leadership roles. Dr. Acevedo is a published author who designed and facilitated a 6-year scholarly writing project (TTTRWE) that encouraged faculty across campus to identify and bond with [their] authentic personal and professional selves through collaboration, reflection, and writing. Her current scholarly work focuses on (1) educational access via her non-profit for female students in Meru, Kenya, Africa and their rhetorical practices to maintain a longitudinal artifact of their experiences as they matriculate and (2) a longitudinal documentary on the impact of female-only living communities. Other research interests include marginalized students, motivational rhetoric, and faculty development. Dr. Acevedo designed and leads each Spring WRaC’s Faculty Symposium: Lightning Strikes PD event where faculty are invited to present their scholarly and other works in “strikes” of 5 minutes. She continues to serve WRaC, CAL and the University by serving on varied Committees to ensure her students’ success and the collective support and achievements of her colleagues.
